Children's Pack

Health promotion is an important issue and this includes raising awareness about hand washing to help reduce the spread of germs.  Our aim is to raise the awareness of hand hygiene as early as possible, the sooner children get into the habit of washing their hands regularly, the better.

The pack has been produced to support the promotion of this important health issue.  It’s full of ideas and materials to encourage children to make hand washing part of their everyday routine.  The contents of the pack are listed below and can be downloaded (use the navigation below to view the sections of the pack).

Survey

We are keen to understand how this pack has been received and used within primary schools and nurseries across Scotland. We have created a short, 6 question survey which should take you no more than 5 minutes to complete. Please take time to complete this survey to let us know what you think.

Posters 1 to 4

There are four posters included in the pack:

poster 2Poster 2: Wash, wash, wash your hands, wash nasty germs away, if you don't you might get ill and that would spoil your day.

 

 

poster 3Poster 3: This is the way we wash our hands to stop the germs, to stop the germs, this is the way we wash our hands all day long.

These are designed to encourage regular hand washing and should be placed where appropriate, in both primary schools and nurseries.

Handy Image

Handy image smallA downloadable image of Handy that can be printed out at any size you want, so it can be used in lots of different ways. It is available as both a PDF file as well as a JPEG. You could use this to make your own reward chart.  Or, you could print out a large Handy and put him onto cardboard to act as a hand washing monitor.

Teacher's Card

Some ideas to help make hand washing part of the school day.

Reward Chart

A chart that can be filled out when children wash their hands (this can be photocopied or downloaded and given out to pupils each week).

Reward Stickers

These could be given out at the end of each week to reward children for washing their hands. They are designed to printed on PC4 labels. If you do not have these labels, you may use address labels of a similar size:

Animation

This cartoon animation helps to explain why, when and how hands should be washed.  It lasts for around 5 minutes.
