The Campaign

Scotland’s National Hand Hygiene campaign was launched in January 2007 and is being delivered by Health Protection Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government Health Directorate. This campaign is the first of its kind in the UK and its core aim is to improve hand hygiene and reduce avoidable illness.

The campaign has two key elements:

A public campaign which launched on 15 January 2007. TV and press adverts will run for seven weeks and will be aired again in 2008 for a similar period of time. A range of other information including information aimed at children will be developed. For more information on the public campaign materials click here

An initial evaluation has been carried on the public campaign which ran from 15 January 2007 until 28 February 2007 has been carried out. For more details on this evaluation please click here.

A campaign aimed at raising awareness among NHS Staff, patients and visitors, which will run alongside the public campaign until March 2008. For more details on the NHS Campaign materials click here

Both elements of the campaign aim to achieve a sustainable change in culture.
