Additional Support
This National Hand Hygiene Campaign strengthens and adds to other National Initiatives being directed by the Scottish Government Health Directorate (SGHD) HAI Taskforce.
Model Infection Control Policies on Standard Infection Control Precautions were produced as one part of these initiatives and were launched in February 2006 on the Health Protection Scotland Infection Control Team web pages. One of these policies is specifically on Hand Hygiene.
These policies are not mandatory but it is intended that they will be suitable for use in the following ways:
- They can be used a as ‘checklist’ to ensure the relevant policies are in place in all areas
- They can be used to examine the content of existing policies already in place, to ensure these are current and comprehensive
- They can be used in their entirety as they are published to guide those in local areas where policies are not available, and to prevent duplication of effort.
- They can be used as a basis to inform local policy development, particularly where more specific, localised information is required to guide those providing care.
These policies are intended for use across all settings in Scotland where care is delivered. Supporting materials for the implementation of the Policies are also available at the HAI & Infection Control Resource Centre.
