Phase 2 - April 2008 until March 2011

This campaign was scheduled to last until March 2008 and funded accordingly. All objectives of this campaign were met. In November 2007, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing announced that further funding would be provided to develop and implement a new programme of work for the HAI Taskforce covering from April 2008 until March 2011. One of the activities in the programme is the continuation of the Hand Hygiene campaign within healthcare settings, with the minister stipulating that each NHS Health Board should reach a target of at least 90% Hand Hygiene compliance by November 2008, and to have a "zero tolerance to non compliance with hand hygiene" by January 2009.

On 25 March 2009 an Integrating Patient Safety - Bridging the Gaps A Scottish Patient Safety Programme / National Hand Hygiene Campaign joint event took place. The aim of the meeting was to promote the integration of the SPSP and Hand Hygiene programmes of work at a local level to improve overall patient safety and quality of care and build capacity of the improvement approach.
